This wonderfully spacious holiday property is located just to the north of the city centre in a leafy and hidden residential area. Being just about a twelve minute walk into the city, along either the river area or the Georgian main street of Bootham, The Wing has the added advantage of being close to the action whilst in its own quiet haven.

The Wing is a fabulous Regency property dating back to the 1820’s. Originally the servants’ quarters and kitchen to the main house, it boasts may original features and offers guests a combination of a beautifully modern interior together with the old, making it a fantastically comfortable accommodation. The property has been refurbished to a very high standard and is full of thoughtful touches to make a guest’s stay perfect.

With four gorgeous bedrooms, sleeping up to eight guests, parking on site for two cars (plus one off-site), a secure sun trap paved courtyard garden and lots of living space, The Wing offers the perfect holiday accommodation for families or friends.

Guests can arrive any available day and stay two nights or more. (Please note there are restrictions over Xmas and New Year.)


This beautiful, warm and welcoming Regency residence dates back to the 1820’s, and was originally the large servants’ quarters and kitchen to the main house.

It is hidden away in a quiet residential area just a short walk to the city centre and with easy arrival access along the A19 or A59 from the York north ring road.

Along the hidden driveway into the front courtyard parking area guests will feel they have stepped back two centuries by the lovely facade of The Wing. Then, through the front door, guests will be immediately greeted by the warmth and welcoming feel of this lovely, spacious property.

On the ground floor, off the long hallway, is a huge yet extremely comfortable living room. Originally the kitchen to the main house this room boasts many original features which add extra character to the beautifully designed interior.

The separate dining room again boasts original features and has lots of space for eight guests to dine and relax. The room opens up through double french doors onto the lovely and secure private courtyard garden.

The designer shaker style kitchen, with a large walk in larder, offers everything a guest could need.

The second floor presents four very spacious and dreamily comfortable bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a super-king bed. The third bedroom a double bed and the fourth bedroom has two single beds. Every sleeping requirement and configuration has been considered and the rooms are full of thoughtful and useful design furnishings and decor.

As well as the ensuite shower room to the master bedroom there is also a very large family bathroom with full bath and a large walk-in shower.

There are games, books, toys, TVs in all bedrooms, a blu-tooth sound system and a TV with Netflix in the living room and a digital radio in the kitchen; really everything a guest could need. Every attention to detail has been considered.

The Wing is located in a hidden area just north of the city. It is a lovely twelve minute walk along the river or along Bootham main street to the city centre. (Or there is a bus stop close by with buses every few minutes to the city centre at The Museum Gardens via the Railway Museum and the Railway Station - a cheap sight-seeing tour!).

The Wing is also just about a 5-7 minute walk to the York Registry Office.

There are shops, local butchers, and the lovely Birdies Perch Gift Shop and cafe close by, and the river walks or the beautiful park are 2 minutes’ walk away.


Access & Departure

Guests are asked to arrive after 3pm. However, if there are no guests leaving on the morning of arrival The Wing may be available for earlier access by arrangement. Or, again by arrangement, luggage can be left whilst the property is being prepared.

Departure is normally for 10am.

Guests will be personally welcomed to The Wing.


Parking is on site for two cars (plus one car off site if required). The Wing has easy access from the A19 and A59 from the north York ring road.


A ten minute taxi ride from the station.

Are you open all year?

The Wing is open for bookings all year. Stays can be as short as 2 nights or as many as 30 nights. Guests can arrive any available day. Please note, however, we do not accept arrivals/departures on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.   

How close to the city are you?

Just about twelve minutes’ walk from the city centre along either the river banks or the main Bootham street into the city.  Or a sight-seeing bus ride via the Railway Museum and Station to the city at The Museum Gardens.

Is it noisy?

York is a bustling and busy city at any time of year as there is so much to see and do but it is very rare for anyone to be disturbed by noise in our properties; in particular for the townhouses on the outskirts of the city centre which are located in residential areas. Even The Minster bells are considerate and don’t ring at night!

How accessible are you by train?

York is on the main rail routes between London and Scotland with trains running a few times an hour (2 hrs to London and 2.5 hrs to Edinburgh). We are also served very well with trains to the west and east, as well as Manchester Airport. The property is too far to walk from the station but is just a few minutes by taxi. Call 08457 225 225 for fantastic deals on the East Coast Mainline, particularly first class tickets which, when booked in advance, can be cheaper than the standard price. Advance tickets can often be purchased cheaper than buying on the day.

If we travel by car where can we park?

Parking is on site for two vehicles plus one extra car off site if required.

I understand York floods regularly, will we be affected?

Although the river is just a couple of minutes walk away, it does not flood in this area.

How far are the nearest airports and what is easiest transport?

From Canada & the US many flights can come in to Manchester which is nearer than Lon-don. From here it is a direct train journey of approx. 2 hours to York. We can also provide details of a local chauffeur, who we and many other guests use, as this can work out almost as cheap as train fares when there are a few travelling, and certainly more convenient. If flying into Leeds/Bradford from Europe or on the London shuttle you will need to take a taxi to Leeds railway station for a train to York or use taxi/chauffeur all the way to York.

How can we book a break at The Wing?

The availability calendars are always up to date so check first that the dates you want are available by clicking on the ‘search’ or ‘book now’ tabs. If booking your break more than one month in advance you will be asked to pay a 40% deposit. The balance will be due one month before arrival. If arriving within the month the full amount will be required upon booking. Payment can be made by card by using our secure on-line booking page. Just click on the ‘book' tab and follow the simple process to check availability, place your booking and to pay the deposit or full amount. We accept all credit and debit cards except Amex, and please note we do not accept cheques, cash or bank transfers.

What happens when we have booked?

If booking on-line you will receive an immediate e-mail confirming your booking and the payment made. You will then receive a more detailed e-mail with further confirmation of your booking followed by information regarding access, directions, car-parking etc. If you have paid a deposit only, you will be sent a secure payment link approximately 5 weeks before your arrival so that your final payment can be made. Booking by phone will follow the same process.

How do we get the keys?

Arrangements will be made with you by the property owners directly regarding access ar-rangements.

What time is check-in and check-out?

You can drop off luggage anytime from late morning by arrangement. Your accommodation will be ready for 3pm latest and, if no-one is leaving that morning, it will probably be much earlier. Check out is before 10am so that the property can be prepared thoroughly between guests but again, guests may leave luggage for later collection, by arrangement.

Do we have to clean up when we leave?

No! Many self-catering properties ask you to do this or charge separately. Everything will be spotless when you arrive, and it is the owners' job to make sure the apartment is spotless again for next guests. Obviously you are asked to respect the property and its contents, and to leave it in good order.

Do you accept children?

Yes.  A cot and high chair can be provided.

Are your properties suitable for wheelchair users?

Because there isn’t a lift to the first floor, only stairs, this accommodation is designated as “not suitable for wheelchair users”.

Are there any restrictions?

There is strictly no smoking within the property. Also animals are not permitted. The property accommodates up to eight people maximum. We also do not allow hen and stag night parties, or other such drinking groups, as the property is in a peaceful residential area.

Do you have any hidden charges?

No we don’t. Only excessive use of the phone may be charged together with any replacement or repair costs for damage during your stay.  See Terms and Conditions.

What complimentary goodies do we get when we arrive?

A complimentary drink is provided for your arrival and you will also find fresh flowers, ample tea and coffee (including de-caf) milk, sugar, juice for the children, plus a few delicious Yorkshire snacks. Also, at an extra charge, you can purchase champagne and chocolates.

Do you have computer access & what TV/entertainment do you have?

Free wi-fi is provided throughout. There is a TV with netflix in the living area. In each bedroom there is also a TV. A blu-tooth sound system and digital radio are also provided.
