This superb holiday property is at 1st floor level in a small and select high-class development of apartments overlooking York’s Medieval Walls, and is just a few minutes’ walk to The Minster. It offers a beautiful and modern interior, giving guests incredibly high standards of accommodation with a warm welcome, two lovely bedrooms and with complimentary parking just a few minutes' walk away. Sanctuary Apartment has every convenience to hand with shops, delis, restaurants, ice cream (!!!), museums and more close by. A simply terrific location. Guests can stay for three nights or more and can arrive any available day. (Please note restrictions apply at Xmas.) Two nights may be available at certain times.

Description

This gorgeous two bedroom and two bathroom apartment is accessed via the building’s front gates, and through the secure entrance door. It is located at first floor level and is beautifully furnished throughout, offering very comfortable sleeping accommodation in two bedrooms (one king and one double bed) for up to four guests, plus a baby.
Through the apartment’s entrance hall the property opens up into a spacious open plan living-dining room with a fully equipped kitchen. There are two wonderfully comfortable velvet sofas, a welcoming fire, and has dining for four guests. The modern kitchen is fully equipped and offers everything a guest could need.
There is a large and sumptuous master bedroom with a modern en-suite shower-room. The second bedroom also has a superbly comfortable double bed. (Please note that the double bed in the second bedroom is only accessed easily from one side, although is still accessible along the bottom of the bed to the far side.) The pristine family bathroom (with bath and power shower over) is opposite the second bedroom. There is also a lovely private, shared courtyard garden to the rear of the building, with seating. Complimentary gated parking for one vehicle is available a few minutes' walk away.
This is a really gorgeous holiday property offering guests a terrific location for a special break, and from which to explore York.

Location

Sanctuary Apartment York is located near Monk Bar (ancient Medieval entrance gate to the city), opposite the Medieval city walls, just off St Maurice’s Road. The property is accessed via the building’s front gate, through the secure entrance door and is located at first floor level. It is just a few minutes walk to The Minster with shops, restaurants, delis and more on the doorstep. A handy Sainsbury’s is just a minute away. Complimentary parking is provided in a gated private car park just a few minutes walk away. The entry fob will be provided on arrival. Luggage can be dropped off from immediately behind the building before parking.

Access & Departure

If departing guests are leaving on the morning of your arrival, the accommodation will be ready around 2-3pm. If we do not have prior guests leaving that morning then access may be earlier by arrangement. Check out is normally for 10.30am. Guests will be personally welcomed on arrival.

Car-parking

A complementary permit is provided for one vehicle for use at a nearby private and gated car park, just a few minutes walk away. The entry fob will be provided on arrival at the apartment.

Train

If arriving by train, Sanctuary Apartment York is about a 10-15 minute walk from the station. It is a difficult walk with luggage over the cobbles though so it would be better to take a taxi, which will take approximately 5 minutes.

Are you open all year?

Yes! Stays can be as short as 3 nights or as many as 30 nights. Guests can arrive any available day. Please note, however, we do not accept arrivals/departures on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. 2 night stays may be permitted when advertised. 

How central are the apartments?

Just a few minutes walk from The Minster, opposite the lovely Medieval City Walls with shops, restaurants, museums and more to hand.

Is it noisy being in the centre of the city?

York is a bustling and busy city at any time of year as there is so much to see and do but it is rare for anyone to be disturbed by noise. Even The Minster bells are considerate and don’t ring at night!

Are we likely to feel hemmed in?

Sanctuary Apartment York is located at 1st floor level in a small and exclusive building with lots of natural light flooding through all windows. The apartment is large, bright and airy so no-one should feel hemmed-in but should instead feel totally comfortable and relaxed.

How accessible are you by train?

York is on the main rail routes between London and Scotland with trains running a few times an hour (c.2 hrs to London and 2.5 hrs to Edinburgh). We are also served very well with trains to the west and east, as well as Manchester Airport. The apartment is just about 15 minutes’ walk from the station (although a bit too tricky with heavy suitcases over the cobbles), or a few minutes by taxi. Call 08457 225 225 for fantastic deals on LNER or Grand Central, particularly first class tickets which, when booked in advance, can be cheaper than the standard price. Advance tickets can often be purchased up to 12 weeks in advance and are cheaper than buying on the day.

If we travel by car where can we park?

Complimentary parking permit for one vehicle is provided for use at the nearby private car-park.

I understand York floods regularly, will we be affected?

Although the River Foss is just a couple of minutes walk away, it does not flood in this area.

How far are the nearest airports and what is easiest transport?

From Canada & the US many flights can come in to Manchester which is nearer than London. From here it is a direct train journey of approx. 2 hours to York. We can also provide details of a local chauffeur, who we and many other guests use, as this can work out almost as cheap as train fares when there are a few travelling, and certainly more convenient. If flying into Leeds/Bradford from Europe or on the London shuttle you will need to take a taxi to Leeds railway station for a train to York or use taxi/chauffeur all the way to York.

How can we book our break?

If booking your break more than one month in advance you will be asked to pay a 40% deposit. The balance will be due one month before arrival. If arriving within the month the full amount will be required upon booking. Payment can be made by card by using our secure on-line booking page. Just click on the ‘book' tab and follow the simple process to check availability, place your booking and to pay the deposit or full amount. We accept all credit and debit cards but please note we do not accept Amex, cheques, cash or bank transfers.

What happens when we have booked?

If booking on-line you will receive an immediate auto e-mail confirming your booking and the payment made. You will then receive a more detailed e-mail with further confirmation of your booking including information regarding access, directions, car-parking etc. If you have paid a deposit only, you will be sent a secure payment link approximately 5 weeks before your arrival so that your final payment can be made.

How do we get the keys?

Arrangements will be made with you closer to the date to confirm arrival time so that your hosts can meet you to show you around and to hand over your two sets of keys, and parking fob if required.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Your apartment will be ready for around 2-3pm and, if no-one is leaving that morning, it may be earlier by arrangement. Check out is before 10.30am so that the apartment can be prepared thoroughly between guests.

Do we have to clean up when we leave?

No! Many self-catering properties ask you to do this or charge separately. Obviously you are asked to respect the property and its contents, and to leave it in good order. Terms and conditions apply re damage or if extra cleaning is required.

Do you accept children?

Certainly. A cot and high chair can also be provided. There is a storeroom where a pushchair can be stored.

Is this property suitable for wheelchair users?

The property is at 1st floor level via stairs so is not designated as suitable for wheelchair users.

Are there any restrictions?

There is strictly no smoking within the apartment or its building. If smoking in the the garden you are asked to stand away from the windows of other properties and to use the ash tray provided on wall. Also animals/pets are not permitted. The property accommodates up to four people plus a baby. We also do not allow hen and stag parties, or similar, as the property is in a small and peaceful residential building.

Do you have any hidden charges?

No we don’t, except for any replacement or repair costs for damage during your stay. This forms part of our terms and conditions, that you agree to pay any recompense within four weeks of departure. You are advised to ensure your house insurance protects you against damage and repair costs. 

What complimentary goodies do we get when we arrive?

A complimentary drink and delicious Yorkshire snacks are provided for your arrival. You will also find ample tea, coffee, milk, sugar and juice for the children. 

Do you have wi-fi & what TV/entertainment do you have?

Complimentary wi-fi is provided throughout. There is a smart TV in the living room area which includes Netflix (bring own account and password), Amazon Prime, Now TV and other apps.
