County House Retreat is such a wonderfully comfortable and spacious one bedroom apartment that we, at multi-award winning York Luxury Holidays, are very proud to be able to offer it to our guests, together with our other highly regarded properties, for unrivalled self catering holiday accommodation in York.

This beautiful property is located on the lower-ground floor of an iconic and historic listed building, and is less than a 5 minute walk to the city centre and The Minster; with the added benefit of shops, delis and restaurants on the door step.

The accommodation really is so light, spacious and comfortable offering a lovely private south-east facing garden, on-site gated parking, lift access if required, a super-king bed and a further single bed for a child.

Guests can stay for two nights or more and can arrive any available day. (Please note restrictions apply at Christmas and New Year and may apply in the summer period.)

 

Description

County House Retreat is a wonderful, light and spacious one bedroom apartment. Located on the lower-ground floor of an historic and iconic building it has such a lovely warm feel, with vaulted ceilings, and french doors leading from the lounge area onto its own private walled garden.

The accommodation can be accessed by stairs or lift, giving access to all. It is then on one level providing a gorgeous open plan living-dining room with large kitchen, a beautifully cosy bedroom offering a 6ft super-king bed or 2 singles (with a further single bed for a child), and an immaculate bathroom with full english bath and shower over.

As well as a private garden and fantastically thoughtful and comfortable accommodation, this superb 5 star apartment also provides gated on-site parking.

The views from both the french doors in the lounge area, and from the bedroom windows, are to the garden. The enticements of the city centre and The Minster area are less than a 5 minute walk away. Shops, delis, restaurants (and wonderful ice-cream!) are on the doorstep.

Wifi is provided, together with TV in the living room and bedroom, blu-tooth sound system, and more!  A truly marvellous holiday property with everything provided, and located close to the city whilst away from the hubbub at night. Beautiful.

Location

County House Retreat is located in an iconic and historic landmark building less than a 5 minute walk from the city centre and The Minster area, with shops, delis, restaurants (and ice-cream!) on the doorstep. A terrific location.

Access & Departure

Access is normally from 4.00pm. Check out is normally for 11.00am. Guests will be personally welcomed by the owners on arrival. Earlier access may be possible depending on previous guest depatures.

Car-parking

Gated parking for one vehicle is on-site in a private allocated bay.

Train

If arriving by train a taxi ride will take less than ten minutes.

Are you open all year?

Yes! Stays can be as short as 2 nights or as many as 30 nights. Guests can arrive any available day. Please note, however, restrictions on length of stay may apply in high summer and we do not accept arrivals/departures on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year's Day.

How central is the property?

Very. Less than a five minute walk from the city centre and The Minster area.

Is it noisy being in the city?

York is a bustling and busy city at any time of year as there is so much to see and do but it is rare for anyone to be disturbed by noise. Even The Minster bells are considerate and don’t ring at night! The accommodation is in a super residential area just outside of the city centre, and is away from the city night life and party walking routes.

Are we likely to feel hemmed in?

County House Retreat is on the lower-ground floor of an historic building. It has high vaulted ceilings, large spacious rooms and double french doors leading on to its own private garden. So there is loads of natural light flooding in. The accommodation is definitely bright and airy so occupants should feel extremely comfortable and relaxed.

How accessible are you by train?

York is on the main rail routes between London and Scotland with trains running a few times an hour (2 hrs to London and 2.5 hrs to Edinburgh). We are also served very well with trains to the west and east, as well as Manchester Airport. The apartment is just about a 15 minute walk from the station but easier by taxi. Call 08457 225 225 for fantastic deals on the LNER line, particularly first class tickets which, when booked in advance, can be cheaper than the standard price. Advance tickets can often be purchased cheaper than buying on the day.

If we travel by car where can we park?

Secure on-site gated parking is provided for one vehicle in an allocated bay within the well lit parking zone. A secure fob entry key is provided and must be returned on departure.

I understand York floods regularly, will we be affected?

It has never flooded in this area, and there are emergency warning systems in place across the city.

How far are the nearest airports and what is easiest transport?

From Canada & the US many flights can come in to Manchester which is nearer than London. From here it is a direct train journey of approx. 2 hours to York. We can also provide details of a local chauffeur, who we and many other guests use, as this can work out almost as cheap as train fares when there are a few travelling, and certainly more convenient. If flying into Leeds/Bradford from Europe or on the London shuttle you will need to take a taxi to Leeds railway station for a train to York or use taxi/chauffeur all the way to York. Leeds Airport also provides a number of routes to York by bus, either Flying Tiger Bus route into Leeds and then a train from there or City Zap Bus which provides a route direct to York.

How can we book our break?

The availability calendars are always up to date so check first that the dates you want are available by clicking on the ‘availability/search’ or ‘book’ tabs. If booking your break more than one month in advance you will be asked to pay a 40% deposit. The balance will be due one month before arrival. If arriving within the month the full amount will be required upon booking. Payment can be made by card by using our secure on-line booking page. Just click on the ‘book' tab and follow the simple process to check availability, place your booking and to pay the deposit or full amount. We accept all credit and debit cards but please note we do not accept Amex, cheques, cash or bank transfers.

What happens when we have booked?

If booking on-line you will receive an immediate e-mail confirming your provisional booking and the payment made. You will then receive a more detailed e-mail with further and full confirmation of your booking, followed by a welcome note from the owners with property address, access and contact details, directions, car-parking etc. If you have paid a deposit only, you will be sent a secure payment link approximately five weeks before your arrival so that your final payment can be made. Booking by phone will follow the same process but please note we only accept phone bookings if booking at least 4 months in advance or if you are a repeat guest.

How do we get the keys?

Arrangements will be made with you closer to the date to confirm arrival time so that your hosts can meet you to show you around, and to hand over your keys and parking fob.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Your accommodation will be ready from 4.00pm. Check out is before 11.00am so that the property can be prepared thoroughly between guests. (Some flexibility may be possible.)

Do we have to clean up when we leave?

No! Many self-catering properties ask you to do this or charge separately. Everything will be spotless when you arrive, and it is the host’s job to make sure the apartment is spotless again for the next guests. Obviously you are asked to respect the property and its contents, and to leave all in good order, as you found it.

Do you accept children?

Yes, 1 child of any age is welcome. There is a single bed in the bedroom for a child, or a cot can be provided on request.

Is this property suitable for wheelchair users?

The property does have a lift from the building side entrance to the lower-ground floor level where the apartment is located. However, there is always the risk that, on very rare occasions, the lift might be out of action for maintenance. There are also a few steps leading from the lift The apartment itself is on one level but please be aware that there is a step into the garden area, and the shower is over the bath.

Are there any restrictions?

There is strictly no smoking or vaping within the apartment or its building. Smoking in the garden is permitted but please be considerate by using the ash and tab bin provided and not placing into the kitchen bin; also to ensure that smoke does not filter into the apartment or surrounding properties. Animals/pets are not permitted, but guide-dogs with prior permission. The property accommodates up to two adult guests, plus one child. We do not allow hen, stag nor other such parties, as the property is in a peaceful residential building and location.

Do you have any hidden charges?

No we don’t. Only unauthorised use of a phone (if provided) may be charged as if provided it is only for emergency calls and to contact your hosts. Also any replacement or repair costs for damage during your stay. This forms part of our terms and conditions so you are advised to read the terms and conditions at our website and to ensure that your house insurance protects you against damage; and you agree to pay any recompense within 4 weeks of departure.

What complimentary goodies do we get when we arrive & what technology is available for use?

Complimentary Yorkshire treats are provided for your arrival. You will also find ample tea, coffee, milk and sugar. At an extra charge of £30 you can purchase champagne and chocolates for that special occasion.

Do you have computer access & what TV/entertainment do you have?

Complimentary wi-fi is provided throughout the apartment. There is a TV in the living room. A blue-tooth sound system is also provided.
