St. Mary’s is a beautiful Victorian town residence of imposing character. Converted and refurbished to the very highest of design quality, it offers all modern requirements whilst still retaining many of its original features.

With three fantastic and sumptuous king sized bedrooms (including an entire master bedroom suite across the first floor), parking for two cars on site, a split-level patio-garden with BBQ and an incredible sauna and games room in the lower-ground level, this really is the perfect place for a special family or friends’ stay in York.

Guests can arrive any available day and stay for two nights or more.  (Please note, however, that restrictions apply over Christmas where a stay of seven nights only can be booked between 23 - 30 December.  No other arrivals or departure are permitted during that period.)

This top-class and unique four floored, three bedroom Victorian town house is accessed from one of York’s finest residential streets and was once the residence of William Monkhouse, York’s famous artist during the Victorian era.

Through the imposing front door and into a beautiful hallway with a stunning wood floor, guests will step into a world where Victorian splendour merges wonderfully with modern design.

Spread over four floors, St. Mary’s is furnished to the highest of design standards and offers lots of space, both inside and out, for up to six guests.

On the ground floor is a large, warm and welcoming lounge with two beautiful leather sofas and a chair.  There is a huge inset fire and a wall inset 55” 4k TV with blu-ray player and surround sound. The lounge leads to a superb dining area with a gorgeous oak dining table and top quality seating for six, aswell as a top of the range designer kitchen with everything anyone could need including a wine fridge.

Over the entire first floor is a sumptuous master bedroom suite with a 55” wall mounted HD TV and blu-ray player.  There is a beautifully comfortable king sized bed, a sofa and a designer leather chair.  The suite also has a separate dressing area with walk-in wardrobe and a full en-suite bathroom, including a top of the range free-standing slipper bath and huge separate walk-in shower.

The second floor offers two further beautiful king sized bedrooms. Both rooms also have TVs with bluray players. There is also a very impressive family bathroom, again with full sized bath and a walk in shower.

The lower ground floor offers something entirely unique to York - a vast purpose built sauna, large enough for ten guests so you can stretch out; and there is a separate shower room.  Then, for kids of all ages, a terrific games room with an 8ft pool table, a 55” wall mounted TV with surround sound and blu-ray player, a mini fridge and more!

Outside there is a south facing split-level courtyard garden with BBQ, lighting and seating. Additionally the property offers free on-site parking for two cars.

St Mary’s is located on one of York’s finest residential streets, just off Bootham, and only a five minute walk to York city, or to the River Ouse area.  Everything is within easy walking.  For a wedding party it is just a couple of minutes from The Registry Office and The Hospitium.

Access & Departure

Guests are welcome to drop off luggage and park anytime from late morning.

The property will be ready for 3pm at the latest.  If there are no guests leaving on the morning of arrival St. Mary’s may be available for earlier access by arrangement.  

Departure is for 10am.

Guests will be personally welcomed on arrival.

Car-parking

Parking is on site for two vehicles.

Train

10 St. Mary’s is a comfortable 15 walk from the station. However, if you have heavy suitcases you may prefer to take a taxi.

Are you open all year?

St. Mary’s is open for bookings all year.  Guests can arrive any available day and stay for two nights or more except for at Christmas when a stay of seven nights only is permitted between 23 - 30 December, no other arrival or departure is allowed during this period.  Nor do we accept arrivals and departures on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.  

How central is the property?

Just a few minutes’ walk along Bootham’s row of Georgian buildings to the city at Petergate, leading to The Minster.

Is it noisy being so close to the city?

York is a bustling and busy city at any time of year as there is so much to see and do, and it is this show of life that makes York such an exciting place to stay.  St. Mary’s is on a residential street about five minutes’ walk from the York main area so noise will be minimal.

How accessible are you by train?

York is on the main rail routes between London and Scotland with trains running a few times an hour (2 hrs to London and 2.5 hrs to Edinburgh).  We are also served very well with trains to the west and east, as well as Manchester Airport.  St. Mary’s is just a 15 minute walk from the station, or a few minutes by taxi.  Call 08457 225 225 for fantastic deals on the Virgin East Coast Mainline, particularly first class tickets which, when booked in advance, can be cheaper than the standard price.  Advance tickets can often be purchased cheaper than buying on the day.

If we travel by car where can we park?

There is parking on site for two vehicles.

How far are the nearest airports and what is easiest transport?

From Canada & the US many flights can come in to Manchester which is nearer than London.  From here it is a direct train journey of approx. 2 hours to York.  We can also provide details of a local chauffeur, who we and many other guests use, as this can work out almost as cheap as train fares when there are a few travelling, and certainly more convenient.  If flying into Leeds/Bradford from Europe or on the London shuttle you will need to take a taxi to Leeds railway station for a train to York or use taxi/chauffeur all the way to York.

How can we book a break?

The availability calendars are always up to date so check first that the dates you want are available by clicking on the ‘availability’ or ‘search'  or 'book now’ tabs.  Alternatively you can e-mail us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or call us on 07746 552478 / 01904 623508.  If booking your break more than one month in advance you will be asked to pay a 40% deposit.  The balance will be due one month before arrival.  If arriving within a month the full amount will be required upon booking.  Payment can be made by card by using our se-cure on-line booking page.  Just click on the ‘book' tab and follow the simple process to check availability, place your booking and to pay the deposit or full amount.  We accept all credit and debit cards except Amex and please note we do not accept cheques, cash or bank transfers..

What happens when we have booked?

If booking on-line you will receive an immediate e-mail confirming your booking and the payment made.  You will then receive a more detailed e-mail with further confirmation of your booking followed by information regarding access, directions, car-parking etc.  If you have paid a deposit only, you will be sent a secure payment link approximately 5 weeks before your arrival so that your final payment can be made.  Booking by phone will follow the same process.

How do we get the keys?

Arrangements will be made with you directly regarding access arrangements and meeting.

What time is check-in and check-out?

You can drop off luggage and park anytime from late morning by arrangement. Your accommodation will be ready for around 3pm and, if no-one is leaving that morning, it may be available earlier by arrangement.  Check out is normally for 10am so that the property can be prepared thoroughly between guests.

Do we have to clean up when we leave?

No!  Many self-catering properties ask you to do this or charge separately.  Everything will be spotless when you arrive, and it is your host’s job to make sure the accommodation is spotless again for next guests.  Obviously you are asked to respect the property and its contents, and to leave it in good order.

Do you accept children?

Yes we do.  A travel cot can be provided on request.

Is this property suitable for wheelchair users?

Sorry but because the sleeping accommodation is up one or two flights of stairs this accommodation is designated as “not suitable for wheelchair users”.

Are there any restrictions?

There is strictly no smoking within the property.  Also animals are not permitted, other than registered guide/assistance dogs.  The property accommodates up to six people maximum, plus a baby in a cot.  Because St. Mary’s is in a peaceful residential street we are sorry to say that we do not allow hen and stag night parties.

Do you have any hidden charges?

No we don’t.  Only excessive use of the phone may be charged together with any replacement or repair costs for any damage during your stay.

What complimentary goodies do we get when we arrive?

A complimentary seasonal welcome hamper basket is provided for your arrival containing milk, tea, coffee and a range of delicious Yorkshire snacks.

Do you have computer access & what TV/entertainment do you have?

Free wi-fi is provided throughout.  There is a 4k Smart TV with blu-ray in the lounge and in each bedroom there is a HD TV with free view and blu-ray player.  A sound-dock is also provided in the lounge.  The basement games room contains an 8ft pool table, 55” HD TV with blu-ray player and more.
