On the first floor of a beautifully converted Georgian building, your lounge and kitchen 'floor to ceiling' windows open out directly onto the square. The beating heart of York throughout the ages, King’s Square still plays host to talented street artists during the daytime, which adds an energetic vibe to the place and provides the perfect backdrop for you to indulge in a relaxing session of people watching.Or you can venture minutes out of the front door and explore the many historical, cultural and culinary sites within the City walls. You really don’t have to go far to soak up the magic of this city full of surprises.  Just twenty seconds away is the famous Shambles, leading down to the unusually named Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate (one of the smallest streets in York). Continue down Fossgate and you are onto what is fast becoming known as ‘Restaurant Street’, where there are many interesting eateries, ranging from Indian and Thai, to French, Italian, Polish and Nepalese! With free parking a short walk away, this magnificent two bedroom property is accessed from Church Street (just off King’s Square), through the building’s secure entrance door and up a flight of stairs to the first floor.  

From the spacious first floor landing you will enter the apartment via a hallway that leads to two sumptuous bedrooms, both with high quality king sized beds, TVs and original Georgian feature windows.  The masterbedroom has a beautiful ensuite with shower and a much prized dressing room.  There is also an attractive separate family bathroom, with bath and shower over.The living-dining area has full floor to ceiling double-glazed sash windows offering stunning views of King’s Square.  If you like people watching this is the place to stay in York!  The beautiful living area has two extremely comfortable recliner chairs and a large sofa, and there is a lovely wooden dining table, which seats four.  The open plan kitchen is of a very high spec with a kitchen bar area and equipped with everything you could possibly need to create a delicious meal (though with the enormous variety of cafes and restaurants on your doorstep, you probably won’t want to use it much!) There is also the added advantage of a separate utility room with a washer-drier.

Guests can stay for two nights or more, and can arrive any available day.

Children and babies are welcome (and we are right next door to York’s Chocolate Story, a big plus for the younger ones).

Location

The King's Apartment is located in the most central area of York on the fa-mous King's Square, just 20 seconds from The Shambles and a few minutes' from The Minster. The property is accessed through the Georgian building's secure door on Church Street and up a flight of stairs.

Access & Departure

Guests are welcome to drop off luggage anytime from late morning but need to be aware that, because this property is in the centre of York, the area is closed to all except disabled traffic between 10.30am and 5pm. Taxis will drop off just a couple of minutes' walk away during these times. If travelling by car it is advisable to head straight to the car park rather than attempt to navigate the busy central streets. The parking permit can be collected from the apartment on arrival which just a short walk away from the car-park. Blue badge holders can access the streets at anytime of day and can park on and near King's Square for up to three hours.

The property will be ready for around 2-3pm. If there are no guests leaving on the morning of your arrival it may be available for earlier access by arrangement.

Departure is for 10am.

Guests will be personally welcomed on arrival.

Car-parking

A free parking permit is provided for one vehicle for use at nearby car park just five minutes walk.

Train

The King's Apartment is a comfortable 15-20 minutes' walk from the station. However, if you have heavy suitcases you may prefer to take a taxi which will drop you off close to the apartment entrance.

Are you open all year?

The King's Apartment is open for bookings all year. Stays can be as short as 2 nights or as many as 30 nights. Guests can arrive on any available day. Please note, however, that we do not accept arrivals/departures on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.

How central are the apartments?

Just a few minutes' walk from The Minster, right in the very heart of York, and overlooking the wonderful King's Square with shops, restaurants, museums and more to hand. You can't get more central.

Is it noisy being so central?

York is a bustling and busy city at any time of year as there is so much to see and do, and it is this show of life that makes The King’s Apartment such an exciting place to stay.  The double glazing is highly effective and, as there is restricted vehicle access, through traffic is minimal.

How accessible are you by train?

York is on the main rail routes between London and Scotland with trains running a few times an hour (2 hrs to London and 2.5 hrs to Edinburgh).  We are also served very well with trains to the west and east, as well as Manchester Airport.  The apartment is just a 15-20 minute walk from the station, or a few minutes by taxi for nearby drop-off.  Call 08457 225 225 for fantastic deals on the Virgin East Coast Mainline, particularly first class tickets which, when booked in advance, can be cheaper than the standard price.  Advance tickets can often be purchased cheaper than buying on the day.

If we travel by car where can we park?

Free parking for one vehicle is provided at a car-park just a short walk away.

I understand York floods regularly, will we be affected?

Although the river is just short walk away, none of our properties are in flood range and have never been affected.

How far are the nearest airports and what is easiest transport?

From Canada & the US many flights can come in to Manchester which is nearer than London.  From here it is a direct train journey of approx. 2 hours to York.  We can also provide details of a local chauffeur, who we and many other guests use, as this can work out almost as cheap as train fares when there are a few travelling, and certainly more convenient.  If flying into Leeds/Bradford from Europe or on the London shuttle you will need to take a taxi to Leeds railway station for a train to York or use taxi/chauffeur all the way to York.

If booking your break more than one month in advance you will be asked to pay a 40% deposit.  The balance will be due one month before arrival.  If arriving within the month the full amount will be required upon booking.  Payment can be made by card by using our secure on-line booking page.  Just click on the ‘book' tab and follow the simple process to check availability, place your booking and to pay the deposit or full amount.  We accept all credit and debit cards but please note we do not accept Amex cards, cheques, cash or bank transfers.

What happens when we have booked?

If booking on-line you will receive an immediate e-mail confirming your book-ing and the payment made.  You will then receive a more detailed e-mail with further confirmation of your booking followed by information regarding access, directions, car-parking etc.  If you have paid a deposit only, you will be sent a secure payment link approximately 5 weeks before your arrival so that your final payment can be made.  Booking by phone will follow the same process.

How do we get the keys?

Arrangements will be made with you directly regarding access arrangements and meeting.

What time is check-in and check-out?

You can drop off luggage anytime from late morning (and pick up your parking permit if required.)  Your apartment will be ready for around 2.30 and, if no-one is leaving that morning, it may be available earlier by arrangement.  Check out is before 10am so that the apartment can be prepared thoroughly between guests.

Do we have to clean up when we leave?

No!  Many self-catering properties ask you to do this or charge separately.  Everything will be spotless when you arrive, and it is your host’s job to make sure the apartment is spotless again for next guests.  Obviously you are asked to respect the property and its contents, and to leave it in good order as charges may apply for damage.

Are your properties suitable for wheelchair users?

Because there isn’t a lift to the first floor where The King’s Apartment is located, only stairs, this accommodation is designated as “not suitable for wheelchair users”.

Are there any restrictions?

There is strictly no smoking within the apartment or its building.  Also animals are not permitted.  The property accommodates up to four people maximum, plus a baby. We also do not allow hen and stag nor other such parties as the property is in a small and peaceful residential building.

Do you have any hidden charges?

No we don’t.  Only excessive use of the phone may be charged together with any replacement or repair costs for any damage during your stay.  (See terms and conditions for details.)

What complimentary goodies do we get when we arrive?

A complimentary drink is provided for your arrival and you will also find fresh flowers, sweets and ample tea, coffee, milk, sugar, plus some delicious Yorkshire snacks.

Do you have computer access & what TV/entertainment do you have?

Free wi-fi is provided throughout.  There is a Smart TV in the living area and in each bedroom there is a digital TV with DVD player.  A bose sound-dock is also provided.
